As some of you know, our mother, Patti, suffered from Sjögren's Autoimmune disease (also known as Sjögren's Syndrome), along with Interstitial Lung disease. There are more unknowns about these illnesses compared to known facts. However, what we do know is that there are approximately 4 million Americans who are suffering from Sjögren's Autoimmune disease. Symptoms of this disease include extensive dryness, profound fatigue, chronic pain, major organ involvement, neuropathies, and lymphomas, and unfortunately, there are limited treatments and resources for people with Sjögren's. Due to Sjögren's, our Mom developed interstitial lung disease, which is a group of lung disorders that cause progressive scarring of lung tissue. Other health issues like autoimmune diseases or exposure to hazardous materials for long-term periods generally cause these disorders. Once the lungs are scarred, there is no repairing them at all, and that was the case with our Mom’s lungs.
