My Sjogren's Walk in Memory of Jennifer Stark
I am walking September 30th to raise awareness and funds to further important research for the Sjögren’s Foundation in honor and memory of my sister, Jennifer Stark. Sjögren’s (pronounced SHOW-GRINS), is an immune system disorder. Jen was diagnosed with Sjögren’s in 2004. For most people, Sjögren’s symptoms are dry eyes and dry mouth and overall lack of moisture production in the body. That’s how it started with Jen. Over the years, it progressed and Jen lived with many complications, some partially disabling, and ultimately lost her life February 27, 2023 from leukemia, resulting from previous chemotherapy to treat lymphoma, a severe manifestation of Sjögren’s disease. Jen took part in this awareness walk most every year since her diagnosis in 2004. I went on her last awareness walk with her 2022. Though her health was failing it was important for her to wear her Sjögren’s T-shirt to raise awareness and help support more research which is needed for early diagnosis, especially for severe manifestations like Jen had. I will be doing the same, in fact, I have resolved to walk a mile in her actual shoes. Please help me do good for others in her honor and memory. Thank you so much. God bless.
