Welcome to Sandi Fenley's Personal Page for Friends of Sjogren's Syndrome!!
Please join me in my efforts to support one of My very best friends, Bonnie Elverum, and the Sjögren's Foundation which has become an important part of her life!
Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) syndrome is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and a dry mouth.
The condition often accompanies other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. In Sjogren's syndrome, the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first — resulting in decreased tears and saliva. Some people with Sjogren's syndrome also have one or more of the following:
- Joint pain, swelling and stiffness
- Swollen salivary glands — particularly the set located behind your jaw
- and in front of your ears
- Skin rashes or dry skin
- Vaginal dryness
- Persistent dry cough
- Prolonged fatigue
Together we can make a difference and impact the future of Sjögren's syndrome , not only for Bonnie, but for the millions of people out the who may not even realize they have this disease. Bonnie found out she had it when she was in her early 50's, and still discovers helpful new research and studies about it through the Sjogren's foundation as she continues to learn new ways to live with this disease everyday.
